Concious Competence Learning Model
The way in which we learn has been studied over many years, how long ago this definition was first recognised and laid down as the learning model to which we reference today is hard to say. It could go back as far as Ancient Greece and be attributed to Socrates. As we know it today some clear claims exist for the (Conscious Competence model's) specific definitions, structure, process and terminology. Gordon Training International has stated and claimed a major role in defining the theory and promoting its use since the 1970s.
Gordon Training International actually call it their 'Learning Stages' model but it certainly matches the definitions as we know them in the model that is detailed below. The Gordon Training model refers to the stages as 'skilled and unskilled', rather than 'competence and incompetence'. Indeed it can be better to use the words skilled and unskilled because they are less likely to offend.
The model is actually very simple to understand and defines the process or stages to how we learn. The model we use at Just Coach!™ is detailed below and in essence follows the learning cycle through from unconciously incompetent or unskilled through to being so skilled that you don't actually have to think about what you are doing i.e. Unconciously competent.
