Will there be a trade-in program for my Original GreenStar Display?
No, there will not be a formal trade-in program to transition customers from the Original GreenStar Display to a GreenStar 2 (GS2) Display. Ask your John Deere dealer if he trades in used AMS equipment. Keep in mind that John Deere AMS will continue selling and supporting the Original GreenStar Display and KeyCard applications in our line-up thus enhancing the value of that system.
Can I move my AutoTrac activation from Original GreenStar Display to my new GS2 display?
Yes, you can transfer your AutoTrac Key to the new GS2 Display. Contact your dealer who will use the AutoTrac Transition Program for this transfer (see Dealer Information/ Guidance Systems/ AT transition program).
What happened to the mobile processor?
The display and mobile processor are combined into one compact unit with the GS2 system. This increases the mobility of the system while providing a sleek new design.
Will I need a new harness to get the GS2 to fit in my machines?
Yes. There are two new adapter harnesses available:
- One works on all previous models of GreenStar Ready John Deere machines and allows connection of original GreenStar Ready A-post display and mobile processor with new GS2 displays.
- The other works on 8030 series tractors as well as model year 2006 7020 and 9020 tractors. It allows connection between bulkhead and GS2 displays. Future generations of John Deere machines will use this harness to connect the GreenStar 2 display as well. For more information, please, read the GS2 harness guide available on Stellar Support.
Will my current KeyCard and DataCard be compatible with the new GS2 system?
No, current KeyCards and DataCards will not be compatible with the GS2 system. Instead this system will utilize pre-loaded software. The DataCard will be a compact flash card, which is inserted into the side of the display. Every display will be shipped with a 256 MB compact flash card, but other compact flash card sizes will also work with the system.
Can I use the universal display control with the GreenStar Display 2600?
Yes! The universal display control is compatible with both, GreenStar Display 2100 (mandatory) and the GreenStar Display 2600 (optional due to touchscreen functions).
Will John Deere’s JDOffice work with the GreenStar 2 system?
JDOffice from John Deere (not a Preferred Partner software), will not work with the GS2 system, but GreenStar Apex will work with both, the Original GreenStar system and the GS2 system. There will be a program on GreenStar Apex to copy over data saved to JDOffice, so that all documentation will be in one program. Guidance A-B lines from the DataCard will also be able to be transferred onto the GS2 System through GreenStar Apex. If you use desktop software from a Preferred Partner, please contact the Partner’s software hotline to get the latest information on compatibility.
Can I easily show multiple AMS applications (documentation, guidance, etc.) on one display?
Simply navigate to the homepage layout manager and design your personal homepage with 1,2,3,4 or even up to 5 different applications!
Why isn’t there a transition for Harvest Doc or Field Doc to the GS2 System?
The Original GreenStar System and the GreenStar 2 System are completely different systems, (much like your VHS player and your DVD player are two different systems). Customers who purchase the GS2 system are getting a documentation system with more capabilities than the Field Doc and Harvest Doc applications currently contain. They are purchasing an entire new system, with similar basic features, but also onscreen mapping and many other features that are not available using KeyCard application software. We chose to have an AutoTrac transition program because of a higher initial cost of investment associated with the AutoTrac.
Can I move the same AutoTrac from the GS2 system back to the Original GreenStar System?
No, once a customer decides he wants his AutoTrac on the GreenStar 2 system there will not be any way to move the activation back to the Original GreenStar system.
Will a controller from a John Deere implement show up on the GreenStar 2 system?
Yes, current controllers, such as the Harvest Mon & Doc, Arc les Gray Wrapper baler, GS Sprayer Pro, etc, will show up on the new GS2 system however, it will be through a feature called Original GreenStar Monitor. Since these controllers were written to Original GreenStar System at the factory, they will always appear similar to the Original GreenStar display screens. When factories begin to re-write controller software in the next few years, these applications will show-up with a new look and feel.
Can I still show my AMS application (documentation, guidance, etc.) if I am showing the Original GreenStar Monitor on my GS2 system?
Although, the Original GreenStar monitor will show through on a GreenStar 2 display in a size similar to what it is now, the right side of the screen can be configured to show an AMS application. Additionally, there is a dual display option with an Original GreenStar display (without the mobile processor) to show your controller operation and then utilize the GS2 display for AMS applications. Keep in mind, as factories re-write these controllers these applications will be able to be re-configured on the GS2 system as well.
How will Curve Track work?
Curve track allows the operator to record a manually driven curved path (similar to an A-B line) on the GS2 display. Once the first curved pass have been recorded, the operator can activate AutoTrac Curve Track and let the vehicle automatically steer along subsequent passes. Each pass is generated from the original pass driven to ensure that steering errors are not propagated through the entire field. When necessary, the operator can change the curve of the path anywhere in the field by simply taking hold of the steering wheel and driving a new path.
Will there be an AutoTrac demo activation for the GS2 System, similar to the AutoTrac Demo KeyCard that AMS Ready Dealers have today?
Yes, every display will ship with 15 hours trial activation of AutoTrac. The trial period will count down when the resume switch is activated and AutoTrac is running. When this trial period is over, AutoTrac will no longer function until a full time AutoTrac activation has been purchased.
When will harvest documentation features be available on the GS2 display?
Harvest documentation features were not on the initial software released with the GS2 displays in January. It will come as a free software update with the Winter software bundle in 2006. From that date forward, it will be pre-loaded to every display that leaves the factory.
Can a GS2 display run on a combine with a side mounted moisture sensor and Yield
With software version 1.4.1085 and upper, the GreenStar 2 system will work with a side mounted moisture sensor and Yield Mapping as well as with the grain tank mounted moisture sensor and Harvest Doc.
When boom sections are shut off on a John Deere sprayer will the on-screen map identify what boom sections are off or will the width just decrease by the area that has been shut off and then re-center like current recording on the Original System?
The display will show where the sections have been turned on and off accurately.
What is the best way to clean the GreenStar Display 2100 or 2600?
We recommend the display to be powered down, and then wiped with a soft cloth sprayed with non-ammonia based cleaner such as John Deere glass or multipurpose cleaner.
Will there be non-Deere controller compatibility with the GS2 displays?
The GS2 system will work with some of the controllers that are supported with the Original GreenStar Field Doc Connect application.
- LH Agro: LH5000
- Kuhn: Quantron P
- Amazone: Amatron+
- Boegballe: Calibrator
For such a serial connection, an additional harness will need to be purchased to connect the GS2 display to the controller. Note, only one non-Deere controller will be allowed to be hooked up to the display at a time.
Are GS2 displays ISOBUS compatible?
The GreenStar 2100 and 2600 displays are ISOBUS compatible. This means that any ISOBUS compliant implement can be controlled with the new John Deere displays. GS2 displays can already be used with 800i Horst Sprayers and KV seeders.
What about third party GPS receivers? Will they be compatible?
Third party GPS receivers will be compatible with the GS2 display for documentation and Parallel Tracking purpose only as AutoTrac requires a StarFire receiver with TCM, or a StarFire iTC receiver.
How do you activate software on the GS2 system?
You will need to go on StellarSupport.com in order to generate the activation code. In this regards, you will need to provide the COMAR number and the current challenge code. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE CHALLENGE CODE WILL CHANGE AFTER EACH GS2 LIVEUPDATE AND EACH SOFTWARE ACTIVATION. The challenge code used to generate the activation code has to fit with the one that is currently on the display. The activation code has then to be entered under the activations page located in the GreenStar 2 selection on the menu.
